A busy girl's guide to a self-care routine / ew & pt

Not gonna lie — the term “self-care” used to make me cringe a bit. To me, it has the flavor of “Treat yo self!” which also, as much as I love Parks & Rec, makes me cringe. They make it seem like you shouldn’t always be caring about yourself and it frames “treating yourself” as a big to-do instead of.. .just being able to occasionally buy things that bring you joy.

That being said, I struggle with both. My self-care routine generally consists of remembering to take off my makeup before bed, snuggling up with my cats on a pile of fuzzy blankets and taking a 10-minute shower after work. But now that the holiday season is rolling around and I’ll be working full-time and I’m going on a trip to Copenhagen, I need to remember to take care of myself.

My morning routine is a bit extensive, but I always make time to get my lunch together  — and by “get my lunch together” I mean toss the lunch I prepared the night before into my lunch bag and then, primarily, measure out and pack all of my snacks.

I am such a snacker. I’m happier when I’m eating snacks instead of meals, and snacks help me to get through the day without feeling cranky and hungry. So, I take snack-packing very seriously, especially because it makes up a lot of my lunch.

Plus, I hate buying lunch because I just cannot justify spending $15 on a salad in NYC. That being said, I’ve developed quite a few lunch packing hacks that keep me sane and keep my lunch from getting too boring.

Here are some handy tips for packing your lunch.

In my office, so many people are starting to sneeze and cough. And working in an open floor plan workspace certainly doesn’t help. Like everyone out there, I don’t want to get sick.
