How to read more books by finding ones you’ll actually love

How to find books you'll like so you can read more books

love to read. It’s the only thing that makes my daily commute to and from Manhattan tolerable and it’s something that’s brought me such joy ever since I was a kid, going from fantasy novels to memoirs to the mix of rom-coms and thrillers I regularly enjoy today.

But it’s not always easy to get through books quickly (and happily), especially if you end up in a slump and don’t know what you like. Or if you spend MONTHS trying to slog through a book that someone recommended to you once/one you feel obligated to read because it’s a ~classic~.

The truth is, if reading feels like a chore, you’re probably not going to do it. And if you’re dragging your feet to finish a book, you’re simply reading the wrong one.

Here’s how to find books you will like, which will help you to read more books and feel good about it.

Paige’s pages — the best and worst books of July 2018

Paige's pages — the best and worst books of July 2018 - millennial book recommendations

The one main thing I love about summer and commuting back and forth for 3-4 hours each day is the fact that I can read so. many. books.

I love reading! It makes my long commute so much better and helps me feel productive, even when I’m not. As I work through my Goodreads reading challenge, I find myself uncovering a lot of books I really enjoyed and some I absolutely hated.

I’m usually a tough critic, especially with young adult novels, so I was so pleasantly surprised to have found so many gems this month. Especially in intense yet comedic YA fiction! I might make this a monthly series because I read so many books and love reading other people’s book posts to find new recommendations. We’ll see how that goes. Anyway, here are my best and worst books of the month of July.

Please note that I am too lazy to give plot summaries and write really in-depth reviews. If you want a description and more details, you can click on the book’s title to be brought to its Goodreads page. I’m just giving you a quick down-low and my thoughts.

The 12 Worst YA Novel Cliches

12 worst ya novel cliches

I don’t post about books very often…or ever but I am an avid reader. I used to read 2-3 young adult novels at any given time and now I find myself reading memoirs and self-help books with the occasional YA novel mixed in. I don’t know if it’s because I’m now 19 and just on the cusp of exiting the main young adult demographic or if I’ve become more of a jerk these days, but I’ve had a lot of qualms about the young adult novels I’ve been reading recently.

Let me elaborate. Now, I typically don’t post book reviews or anything about books on here but my jimmies have been so rustled by YA novels lately that I’ve decided to write about the worst YA novel cliches. In case you’re curious as to which novel sparked this outrage, it was The Museum of Heartbreak by Meg Leder. You can read my scathing review complete with horrific quotes from the novel HERE.

5 Books Every Millennial Should Read

5 Books Every Millennial Should Read - Millennial Book Suggestions // ew & pt

Like most people who love writing, I really enjoy reading. Also upon Googling the correct spelling of “millennial” because for me it’s just one of those words I discovered that the cutoff for millennials is those born in 1995 and I was born in 1996 so I’m kind of miffed about that but I’m going to pretend I’m a millennial anyway la dee da.

So here are five books I think every millennial should read and yeah, this is totally subjective but so is 99.9% of things on the Internet. Without further ado, here are some book suggestions from one (almost? honorary? self-proclaimed?) millennial to another.
